Global Agency, the world’s leading independent distributor, today announced that Rivals – In – Law will debut in Ukraine on Tuesday, September 19.
Channel Ukraine has commissioned 40 episodes of the format. The show will broadcast weekly and it will be known locally as ‘Свекруха чи невістка’.
The format has been licensed by MTV Lebanon recently for its second season in MENA. It has also been sold to Imagine Media Group, Israel to air on Channel 20; Alpha TV, Greece; Alfa TV, Macedonia; Abu Dhabi TV, Middle East and FYI Channel / AETN18 Network, India.
Rivals –In- Law’s appeal lies in combining the relationship that drama viewers want from a reality entertainment show, with the practical take-home skills they’d expect from a cooking format. Every episode, a young wife, her mother-in-law and husband/son are introduced. The son must choose a favorite dish for them to prepare. Both women get to work in the studio kitchen under the watchful eye of a chef host, and age-old tensions are brought to boiling point in the process. The son must ultimately decide who cooked it best, and his dilemma is relatable for many audiences.
Izzet Pinto, CEO of Global Agency, said: “The biggest rivalry in life are always between the bride and the mother-in-law. Bringing them together and having the son as judge creates an incredible madness and fun on TV. It is more than a cooking show and a perfect match for every territory. As a result of this, the format rapidly rolling out internationally, having sold to many territories since it first launched. There’s still a huge buzz around Rivals – In – Law and we are very happy to announce this new deal with Channel Ukraine”.
